Deep dropping is an art in Key West, some describe it as glorified bottom fishing, but in reality it gets rather complex. You are trying to find an exact spot in a vast ocean and present baits to a fish who is swimming around up to 1200 feet down in the dark. You have to judge your drift and current to hit where you want, all the time making sure you don’t hang the rig up and lose everything. Thats the Capt’s job, its up to the angler to judge when to stick the fish and adjust the drag to try and keep it from spinning off on the 1000 foot ride up. All the while dealing with the excitement of what do we have bending the heck out of our rod. We have electric reels, but some guests like hand crank the fish up from the deep and you can do that too!
